The 24 Hours Game

Sort of a preview of what’s coming on tomorrow’s show, I wanted to talk in more detail about the game that’s sweeping the nation.

I call it the 24 hours game.  Basically, someone comes up with a thing and you have to decide whether you can get it done within 24 hours.

The Scenario:
Someone has captured your mom.  They are holding her hostage.  If you cannot fulfill the task within the 24 hours, they will execute your mom.  Sorry, moms.  If it helps, you can consider it a compliment that mom death is the most intense motivator I can think of.

However, once the night is over your mom’s captors will disappear into the mystic.  So you want to avoid, at all costs, doing something like robbing a pharmacy.  Maybe this whole mom death thing makes it impossible because I’d probably rob a pharmacy to save my mom from being shot in a dockside warehouse.  So…Okay, let’s say this. You’ll lose whatever object is most important to you.  Car, bike, Gears of War Edition Xbox, whatever it is for you.  So it’s not a life-ender, you probably wouldn’t kill someone.  More than one person, anyway.  But you’d go to some lengths.

The Rules:

-You have 24 hours to complete the task.

-If it feels like you MIGHT be cheating, you are probably cheating.

-Remember, the point of the game is discussing the idea and the methods, seeing where it would take you.

Some Examples:

-Acquire steroids fit for human use.

-Acquire and beat the original Legend of Zelda on NES.

-Find and get the phone number of a brand new, same sex friend without lying or misrepresenting yourself.

-Ollie on a skateboard.

-Decide on and get a tattoo that you won’t hate in 5 years.

-Break open a gun safe using only the tools you have available in your home.

-Remove one of your own limbs entirely on your own, no outside interaction.

-Finish 24 beers.

These are just some examples.  I’d love to hear some others that you might come up with.  Either way, think about this game next time you’re at a function and you find yourself about to ask a question like, “So, what do you do for a living?”
