“You know what’s super weird and distinct about Japanese horror comics? The main character torch gets passed around a lot.

In an American comic, you can almost guarantee that whoever you’re reading about at the end of issue 1 will probably still be around until the end of the series. In a Japanese comic, you’ll be thinking a certain character is the hero, then bam, a tentacle bus slams into him and he’s a smear on the sidewalk, and the hero is now some random dude who jumped into the fray for some reason.

It got me thinking because I was reading Thanos by Jeff Lemire, and one of the problems of a comic like that we end up killing a lot of time. Because Thanos will be fighting some dudes, and it’s not like Thanos is going to get killed in issue 3 of 5, so why even bother?”
