“Dept. H Omnibus Volume 2 (Dept. H Omnibus, 2)”

“This really fits in with an accidental trilogy:

The Abyss
Leviathan
Deepstar Six

Funny story, me and my girlfriend watched about half of Leviathan before we realized we meant to watch The Abyss. And it made The Abyss a little more boring than it should’ve been. Don’t get me wrong, The Abyss is a far more competent movie. But Leviathan has a rubber lobster man suit. So, you know, it makes the call very close.

We never watched Deepstar Six. It’s the lowest rated of the three. Which either means we made a great choice or the complete wrong choice. It’s possible that what we should’ve done is skip the middle one, go with the bookends.

In the comics world, hmm…we’ve got Dept. H, The Wake, and how about a blast from the past, Fathom.

Dept. H is definitely The Abyss, The Wake is definitely Leviathan because, well, monsters, and Fathom is Deepstar Six by default.

And when I look at it that way, the pluses and minuses of going with the bookends are clear. On the one hand, you get to experience the highs either way, so you’re set there. It’s just a matter of whether a cheesy, somewhat bad book is more entertaining than a middler, a somewhat entertaining, not bad, but not great version. “
